DESCRIPTION:To participate in the Great Compassion Repentance Ceremony is not merely to recite the Great Compassion Mantra (Nīlakaṇṭha Dhāraṇī), nor is it simply a matter of sincere confession and repentance. Rather, through personal realization and insight, one gives rise to the bodhi-mind that resonates with and accords with Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva’s compassion. Although we do not have a thousand hands or a thousand eyes, through the practice of repentance and prostration, we visualize ourselves as one with Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva, learning the compassionate, gentle, and patient qualities of Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva’s mind and conduct.
